FOIA Request to Village of Athens Regarding New Voter Registrations on November 7, 2024.
In our continued efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Central Wisconsin News have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Village of Athens. The request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and seeks to obtain a list of new voters who registered on Election Day, November 5, 2024.
As a media organization committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to such records is essential for us. This information will enable us to fulfill our professional responsibilities and ensure that the electoral process is conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
We believe that as media professionals engaged in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver for this request. We await a response from the Village of Athens regarding this matter.
