A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Easton in Wisconsin regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024. The request was made by Central Wisconsin News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our pursuit of transparency and accountability, we sought a list of voters who registered on Election Day, November 5, 2024. This information is vital in understanding the dynamics of voter participation and ensuring that every citizen's right to vote is upheld.
As part of our mission to provide comprehensive news coverage, we believe that access to public records is crucial. It allows us to hold public institutions accountable and offer transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we requested a fee waiver as a media professional under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq.
We are awaiting a response from the Town of Easton regarding this request. We will continue to follow up on this matter and report any updates as they become available.
