The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Allen F. Blocher Planetarium will host a series of shows this December, offering the public an opportunity to explore the night sky and celebrate the holiday season from a cosmic perspective.

The planetarium will present shows at 2 p.m. on Sundays throughout December. Each show lasts approximately one hour and includes a 25-minute presentation focusing on the current night sky over Central Wisconsin, highlighting bright stars, constellations, and planets. Attendance is free and open to all, though donations are welcomed to support ongoing programs.

On December 8, attendees can enjoy "MUSICA – Why is the Universe Beautiful?" which explores how art, music, and mathematics contribute to the beauty of the cosmos. The following week on December 15, "Season of Light" will delve into how winter traditions worldwide bring light in various forms through holiday celebrations and celestial phenomena.

In addition to these shows, a Junior Scientist program titled “Moles, What is Out There?” will be available from 3:40-4:10 p.m. on December 15. This event includes a book reading session starting at 3 p.m., conducted in collaboration with the UW-Stevens Point Museum of Natural History.

Seating at the planetarium is limited to 55 people on a first-come, first-served basis. Groups larger than eight may arrange special showings by contacting 715-346-2208 or completing an online request form; however, there is a fee for such requests.

Located on the second floor of UW-Stevens Point's Science Building at 2001 Fourth Ave., Stevens Point, parking is available in Lot D behind the building and free in all university lots after 7 p.m. and during weekends.

Additionally, stargazing sessions are scheduled for Monday through Wednesday evenings from 8:30-10 p.m., contingent upon clear skies and temperatures above 15 degrees Fahrenheit. These sessions take place at Colman Field at Maria St. and Reserve St., with weather updates available on the department’s website.
