The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is introducing a streamlined process for students seeking emergency financial aid. Starting January 2025, a new system will allow students to apply through a single online portal for various types of emergency funding. This change aims to simplify the application process and provide faster support.

Chancellor Thomas Gibson emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting that many students juggle work, school, and family commitments while dealing with basic need insecurities. "We don’t want an unforeseen financial circumstance to derail their college education and their ability to find their purpose and career path," he stated.

The Emergency Aid Team, comprising members from several university departments, will review applications and provide assistance within 24 business hours. Funding will be sourced from the James and Nancy Baxter Fund, Universities of Wisconsin Administration Emergency Aid Funds, UWSP Foundation funds, and specific college funds like the College of Natural Resources Crisis Intervention Fund.

Jim and Nancy Baxter highlighted the significance of timely financial help: “There are times in life where a little financial help can make the difference between failure and success.”

Until January 2025, students can contact uwsp.foundation@uwsp.edu for emergency aid applications. Additional resources include The Cupboard food pantry, The Closet clothing donation service, and The Backpack supply program.

Donations to support these initiatives can be made through the UWSP Foundation or on Giving Tuesday to various student support funds.
