Last week, a bill introduced by Congressman Tom Tiffany (WI-07) was signed into law by President Joe Biden. The legislation, H.R. 6651, renames the United States Post Office in Necedah, Wisconsin, as the Sergeant Kenneth E. Murphy Post Office Building. This change honors Sergeant Kenneth E. Murphy for his service and sacrifice during the Vietnam War.

Sergeant Murphy, a resident of Necedah, received the Distinguished Service Cross and a Purple Heart for his actions in Vietnam. "Sergeant Murphy was a true hero to our country and led his fellow service members out of a deadly trap during the Vietnam War despite being wounded twice," said Congressman Tiffany. "Renaming the Necedah Post Office in his honor ensures his legacy and service are forever etched into our community."

Expressing his gratitude, Sergeant Kenneth E. Murphy stated, "It was my greatest honor to serve my country alongside patriots of the 101st Airborne Div. This honor being bestowed upon me humbles me to my core. I could never have imagined it."

The renamed post office is located at 603 West 3rd Street in Necedah. On November 9, 1966, while serving as a squad leader on a mission near Tuy Hoa, Sergeant Murphy made significant efforts to assist wounded soldiers under heavy fire and organized an assault that enabled his men to escape an enemy trap.

The entire Wisconsin delegation co-sponsored H.R. 6651. Details about the renaming ceremony will be announced later.
