An administrator from Gannon University has been appointed as the new assistant to the chancellor for affirmative action and Title IX at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Joseph Primiano will take on his new responsibilities starting January 6, 2025.

Primiano's role involves ensuring compliance with various state and federal laws, alongside Universities of Wisconsin policies and campus regulations. He will report directly to Chancellor Thomas Gibson.

At Gannon University, Primiano was the Title IX coordinator and directed the Office of Student Accountability and Prevention Education. His contributions included teaching criminal justice courses, chairing the Sexual Misconduct Committee, and participating in several university groups such as the Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee. Additionally, he owns Ohio Title IX, LLC, a consulting company specializing in higher education.

Primiano holds a juris doctor from Cleveland State University's Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and a degree in criminal justice administration from Tiffin University. His community involvement includes roles with the City of Mentor Board of Building and Zoning Appeals and the Cleveland Community Police Commission.

Chancellor Gibson expressed confidence in Primiano's qualifications: “Joseph’s extensive experience in higher education, law and Title IX administration ensures that UW-Stevens Point will maintain its compliance with institutional policies, laws and regulations, preserving a safe and inclusive learning community for students, faculty and staff,” said Chancellor Gibson. “I look forward to having him as part of our team.”

Title IX is a federal civil rights law established under the Education Amendments of 1972 that prohibits sex-based discrimination in any educational institution receiving government funding. Affirmative action policies aim to enhance employment and educational opportunities across various demographics.
