The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will name its Chemistry Biology Building in honor of alumni Frank and Kathleen Haeni, acknowledging their significant contributions to the institution. The couple, both 1970 graduates and former educators, have supported the university through four endowed scholarships and various programs, including faculty-mentored undergraduate research.

Chancellor Thomas Gibson expressed gratitude for their generosity: “The Haenis have remained committed to education and student success throughout their careers as educators and in retirement in their support of UWSP students, programs, and facilities,” he said. “Their gifts encourage growth and purpose for our students.”

In response to this recognition, the Haenis stated: “We thank the university for this great honor and are humbled by this generous gesture.” They hope to continue supporting future generations at Stevens Point.

Both earned degrees in biology from UWSP. Frank later received a master’s degree in biology from Southern Connecticut State University in 1976, while Kathleen earned a master’s degree in education from Viterbo University in 1996. Their teaching careers spanned several decades before retiring to Crivitz.

Frank is also known for his woodworking skills, having donated benches and tables carved from campus oak trees. The dedication ceremony for the newly named Haeni Chemistry Biology Building will occur at a future date.
