UW-Stevens Point Associate Professor of Music and Director of Orchestras, Andy Moran, has been appointed as the new Executive Director of the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra (CWSO) by its Board of Directors. Moran has served as the Music Director since 2020 and will continue in this capacity under his new title of Music and Executive Director.
“I am truly honored to be stepping into this new role with the CWSO,” said Moran. “Since moving to Wisconsin in 2016, I’ve seen first-hand the impact we make in our community and our potential for increased accessibility to great performances and outreach programs. Leading the organization both on-stage and off will be a new challenge that I am eager to undertake.”
Al Chaney, President of the CWSO’s Board of Directors, commented on Moran's appointment: “Our board was thoroughly impressed with Andy’s performance as Interim Executive Director. His exceptional organizational, leadership, and financial skills, combined with his ability to foster strong relationships and camaraderie with the staff have contributed significantly to our success this season. He has earned and deserves the title.”
Moran moved to Central Wisconsin in 2016 and has become known as a versatile conductor at UW-Stevens Point and beyond. He has guest conducted at various orchestras including Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra and Waupaca BachFest.
Additionally, Moran is an accomplished horn player who has performed with several orchestras such as Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra, Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra, El Paso Symphony Orchestra, Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra, Brevard Music Center Orchestra, and Sarasota Music Festival.
The CWSO is composed of sixty-five professional musicians from central Wisconsin. The orchestra includes music educators, professors, students from UW-Stevens Point among others. Celebrating its 76th year, CWSO remains integral to Central Wisconsin's arts scene with its mission "To enrich, engage and educate through the power and performance of live music."
