Leadership changes announced at UW-Milwaukee and UW-Stevens Point

Thomas Gibson Chancellor | University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point

Dr. Thomas Gibson has been appointed as the new chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, with his tenure beginning on or about July 1, 2025. Reflecting on his time at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Gibson expressed gratitude for the experiences and relationships he formed during his leadership. "I am filled with gratitude when I consider my time as chancellor at UW-Stevens Point, for all the people I have met and worked with closely," he stated.

Gibson acknowledged the difficulty of deciding to apply for a new position, given his connections at UW-Stevens Point. He assured his ongoing dedication to the university's mission during the remainder of his tenure, stating, "I remain committed to UW-Stevens Point and its educational mission throughout the remainder of my tenure here."

In another announcement, the Universities of Wisconsin President, Jay Rothman, has appointed Pratima Gandhi as the interim chancellor of UW-Stevens Point, effective July 14. Gandhi currently serves as the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration at the university. Dr. Gibson expressed strong support for her appointment, stating, "Pratima has my complete support and trust in taking on this role and continuing the significant progress and positive momentum made at UWSP in recent years."

Gibson will continue to be actively involved as chancellor until his departure. He expressed confidence in Gandhi's leadership and offered congratulations and thanks to her. "My congratulations and thanks to Pratima as she prepares for her new role. I know she will have your support and collaborative spirit with her as interim chancellor," he said.
