Outstanding faculty and staff at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point have been recognized for their contributions in the 2024-25 academic year through various awards.
The Excellence in Teaching, Scholarship, and Service Award was presented to Brian Barringer from the biology department. He mentors 17 undergraduate students and has played a significant role in the Cannabis Science Certification Program, receiving multiple grants for his work.
Karlyn Jakusz, an information technology solutions manager, was awarded the Carolyn Rolfson Sargis Award. Jakusz has contributed significant savings for the university by overseeing roles as postmaster, IT purchasing, and telephone administration, particularly through the Teams Voice implementation.
Several individuals were honored with the Excellence in Teaching Award. Holly Petrillo empowers students with hands-on lab experiences in forestry; Margaret Kubek of social work emphasizes balance and empathy; Nathan Bowling of chemistry and biochemistry focuses on teaching, scholarship, and mentorship; and Sean Mooney Leber of psychology fosters a welcoming learning environment.
Recognized with the University Scholar Award were Bryant Scharenbroch, an associate professor of soil science, and Joshua Horn, a professor of philosophy. Scharenbroch is known for his published works and research funding, while Horn's publications and grant achievements support professional and student development.
For their contributions to the university's service, Sallie Scoville of health sciences and wellness and Shelli Dubay of wildlife were acknowledged with the University Service Award.
Laura Gehrman-Rottier, principal alumni relations officer, received the Academic Staff Excellence Award for cultivating relationships with alumni that have resulted in over $40 million in donations.
Amanda Gilman, a major gifts officer in the College of Letters and Science, secured the Academic Staff Spirit of Community Service Award by raising over $6 million in scholarships and funding over two years.
Recognition for Outstanding Work Performance was given to: Darcy Hannon McFarland, a library assistant pivotal in implementing the Interlibrary Loan platform Rapido; Steve Sparrow for customer service excellence; Tammy Molski for enhancing financial administrative processes; and Patricia Bembenek for her leadership as a custodian.
