The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has introduced a new mobile application designed to enhance safety and connectivity for its campus community. The app, named SAFEPOINT, is available at no cost to students, faculty, staff, families, and guests on and around the university campus.

SAFEPOINT was developed in partnership with University Police and the Office of the Dean of Students. It also received support from Housing and Residence Life as well as the UWSP Student Government Association. This comprehensive safety tool integrates with Pointer Alerts, the university’s emergency communication system, to provide improved assistance during emergencies.

“UWSP has an unwavering commitment to campus safety,” said Michele Haywood, chief of Police and Security Services. “This app empowers our campus, parents and community members with the tools and information needed to stay safe and connected.”

The app offers several features aimed at ensuring user safety. Among them are "Virtual Walk Home," which allows users to share their location with University Police; "Friend Walk," enabling users to share their journey with trusted contacts; and "Mobile Bluelight," which lets users instantly share their location with campus law enforcement during emergencies.

Beyond safety features, SAFEPOINT functions as a digital hub for various support services and resources on campus. Users can access mental health support, connect with academic advising, participate in campus activities, join student organizations, and seek tutoring assistance through the Tutoring-Learning Center—all within the app.

Additionally, students and their families can find information about significant events such as move-in weekend, Homecoming and Family Day, and Commencement through periodic updates provided by the app.

SAFEPOINT is accessible for download on both Android and iOS devices.
