Representative Tom Tiffany, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Wisconsin, posted a series of tweets between September 30 and October 1, 2025, addressing the ongoing debate over government funding and recent actions in Congress.
On September 30, Tiffany referenced past and present statements by Senator Schumer, writing: "Senator Schumer in 2013: A shutdown is the politics of idiocy. Senator Schumer today: Unless you give free healthcare to illegal aliens, I will shut down the government."
The following day, Tiffany provided an update on legislative proceedings regarding the federal budget. He stated: "Here’s where things stand: The House passed a clean, bipartisan budget bill on 9/19. 3 Senate Dems joined Republicans yesterday… We are at 55/60 votes needed to pass the bill. Senator Baldwin voted to SHUT DOWN the government, choosing illegal aliens over Wisconsin families." This tweet highlighted both bipartisan efforts and ongoing divisions within the Senate.
Later on October 1, Tiffany commented further on Democratic messaging during the debate with a brief statement: "Democrats accidentally told you the truth."
Tom Tiffany has represented Wisconsin in Congress since winning a special election in 2020. He secured reelection in subsequent cycles, defeating Tricia Zunker in 2020 (with approximately 61% of the vote), Richard Ausman in 2022 (about 62%), and Kyle Kilbourn in 2024 (nearly 64%). These electoral victories have solidified his position as a prominent Republican voice for his district.
The current dispute over government funding centers on disagreements between House Republicans and Senate Democrats regarding provisions related to healthcare benefits for undocumented immigrants and other policy issues. Government shutdowns have historically resulted from such impasses when Congress fails to pass appropriations bills or continuing resolutions by required deadlines.
