The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has been recognized as a silver 2024-25 Military Friendly School, thanks to the strong support provided to military veterans and ROTC students on campus. This designation comes as a result of the institution's commitment to meeting various thresholds for student success and support services.

Kayla Zimmerman, a first-year student and president of the Veterans Club at UW-Stevens Point, emphasized the crucial role of the club in her academic journey, stating, "I don’t know how well I would have done that first semester without the Veteran’s Club." Zimmerman highlighted the significance of having a support system during her college experience, especially amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Christopher Smith, UW-Stevens Point’s Veteran Services Coordinator, acknowledged the collective effort that contributed to the university's Military Friendly designation, stating, “Earning this distinction is really a credit to the effort and outcomes of students, both veteran and military affiliated, and the tremendous support of the university’s staff.”

Smith further emphasized the university's commitment to supporting veteran and military-affiliated students, offering assistance in various aspects such as academic advising, career services, and overall well-being. Zimmerman commended Smith's dedication, noting, “Chris does a lot of work to remind you and help you with the paperwork involved in attending school as a veteran."

Reflecting on the supportive environment at UW-Stevens Point, Smith expressed gratitude for the culture that prioritizes student success, stating, “We are extremely fortunate to have a culture that supports the student’s comprehensive well-being and success here at Point.”

As Zimmerman prepares to graduate and embark on a career as a process engineer, she attributes her success to the invaluable support received from the university's faculty, staff, and veteran services. She encourages fellow veteran students to utilize the resources available, emphasizing, “If you need help with anything – math homework, a project or U.S. Veteran Affairs, there is someone there who has been there, done that."

The collaborative efforts at UW-Stevens Point exemplify a commitment to empowering military-affiliated students and fostering a supportive community that facilitates academic and professional success.
