Washington, DC - Congressman Tom Tiffany (WI-07) has introduced legislation to recognize the bravery and sacrifice of Sergeant Kenneth E. Murphy by renaming the United States Post Office in Necedah. The proposed name for the post office is the Sergeant Kenneth E. Murphy Post Office Building, in honor of Sergeant Murphy's distinguished military service.

Sergeant Kenneth E. Murphy, a native of Necedah, Wisconsin, demonstrated exceptional courage and dedication during his service in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, one of the highest military honors, for his gallantry in action. Additionally, he received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during his service.

Congressman Tiffany expressed his admiration for Sergeant Murphy, stating, "Sergeant Murphy's heroism and devotion to his fellow service members and our great nation deserve to be honored. This Necedah postal renaming will cement his legacy in our nation's history."

Sergeant Kenneth E. Murphy, who still resides in Necedah, expressed gratitude for the nomination, saying, "I am honored to be considered for this prestigious nomination for the Necedah Post Office Renaming. I was born in the house I grew up in and have never left Necedah."

The legislation, known as H.R. 6651, aims to rename the U.S. Post Office located at 603 West 3rd Street in Necedah, Wisconsin, as the "Sergeant Kenneth E. Murphy Post Office Building." This initiative seeks to permanently commemorate Sergeant Murphy's legacy in his hometown.

On November 9, 1966, Sergeant Murphy, serving as a squad leader on a search and destroy mission near Tuy Hoa, demonstrated immense bravery. Despite being wounded twice, including a head injury, he fearlessly led his men in a fierce assault on the enemy, ensuring their safety and enabling them to overcome the insurgent force.

The entire Wisconsin delegation, including Congressman Tiffany, supports this legislation as original cosponsors. Their collective effort highlights the significance of recognizing Sergeant Murphy's extraordinary contributions to his country.
