The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will host a series of planetarium shows at the Allen F. Blocher Planetarium during September. The programs, which are free and open to the public, take place Sundays at 2 p.m. Each session lasts about an hour and includes a 25-minute presentation on the current night sky in Central Wisconsin.

Scheduled topics for September include "Phantom of the Universe: The Search for Dark Matter" on September 7, "Mysteries of Your Brain" on September 14, "The Sun, Our Living Star" on September 21, and "Mars, The Ultimate Voyage" on September 28.

A Junior Scientist program titled “Planets of the Solar System (live)” is planned for Sunday, September 14 from 3:30-4 p.m., following a book reading session that begins at 3 p.m. This event is offered in partnership with the UW-Stevens Point Museum of Natural History.

According to organizers, seating is limited to 55 people and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Groups larger than eight can request special showings by calling or submitting an online form; fees apply for these arrangements.

The planetarium is located in the Science Building at 2001 Fourth Ave., Stevens Point. Parking is available in Lot D behind the building and is free after 7 p.m. and on weekends.

Stargazing sessions will also be held starting Monday, September 8 on Colman field from 8:30 to 10 p.m., Monday through Wednesday evenings if weather permits. These viewings depend on clear skies and temperatures above 15 degrees Fahrenheit. Updates regarding weather conditions can be found at uwsp.edu/smcpa/blocher-planetarium.

"All events are free and open to the public, but donations are appreciated and help continue these programs," organizers stated.
