The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Allen F. Blocher Planetarium will offer a series of shows this November, providing an opportunity for the public to explore distant worlds and celestial phenomena. The planetarium shows are scheduled at 2 p.m. on Sundays throughout the month.
Each show lasts approximately one hour and includes a 25-minute presentation about the current night sky over Central Wisconsin, highlighting bright stars, constellations, and planets. While attendance is free, donations are encouraged to support these programs.
The schedule for November is as follows:
- On November 3rd, "Exoplanets: Discovering New Worlds" will focus on the search for alien worlds beyond our solar system.
- On November 10th, "Planets of the Solar System – A Live Tour of the Solar System" will showcase celestial bodies within our solar system and their unique features.
- On November 17th, "Unveiling the Invisible Universe" will delve into cosmic discoveries made through various astronomical methods over time.
- On November 24th, "Touching the Edge of the Universe" will recount astronomy's evolution from Galileo's telescope to modern space missions.
Additionally, a Junior Scientist program titled "Sky Quest" is set for November 24th from 3:40 to 4:10 p.m., preceded by a book reading session starting at 3 p.m. This event is organized in collaboration with UW-Stevens Point Museum of Natural History.
Seating at the planetarium is limited to 55 people on a first-come-first-served basis. Groups of eight or more can arrange special showings by contacting 715-346-2208 or submitting an online request form; such requests incur a fee.
Located on the second floor of UW-Stevens Point Science Building at 2001 Fourth Ave., Stevens Point, parking is available in Lot D behind the building and free after 7 p.m. and on weekends across university lots.
Weather permitting stargazing sessions are offered Monday through Wednesday evenings from 8:30 to 10 p.m. at Colman Field near Maria St. and Reserve St., contingent upon clear skies and temperatures above fifteen degrees Fahrenheit.
