Mid-State Technical College is set to host the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Ag Day Celebration along with its annual Farm Tour on March 11. The events will take place in the Marshfield area, starting at 7:30 a.m. and concluding around 3:00 p.m., with times varying based on Farm Tour pick-up locations. The public is invited to register for this event, which focuses on modern technology and agricultural practices aimed at improving farming operations.

The day will commence with a complimentary breakfast at the American Legion in Marshfield. Special guest speakers will include WTCS President Layla Merrifield, Mid-State President Dr. Shelly Mondeik, and Randy Romanski, Secretary of the State of Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP).

"It's important for all of us to be reminded of how integral agriculture is to Wisconsin's economy and culture," said WTCS President Layla Merrifield. "Technical colleges are always working to better support the industry's future development and sustainability. I look forward to connecting with members of the agriculture community and meeting students studying ag programs at Mid-State Technical College. Their stories of how committed they are to the industry, and to the land, are a highlight of the day."

Merrifield also noted that technical colleges across Wisconsin provide specialized programming and expert faculty to support the agricultural industry. "We are committed to sustaining and supporting farmers with the skills and education they need to succeed," she added.

Following breakfast, participants will visit Romadka View Holsteins in Granton, Wis., owned by Mark and Kelli Elmhorst, as well as Heeg Brothers Dairy, LLC in Colby, Wis., run by brothers Mark, Gary, and Jay Heeg. These tours will showcase both traditional values and modern advancements in dairy farming.

"We are honored to host the WTCS Ag Day Celebration this year and excited to welcome farmers, educators and community members to the Marshfield area," stated Mid-State President Dr. Shelly Mondeik. "Farm Tour and the WTCS Ag Day Celebration complement each other perfectly by showcasing innovative agricultural practices and fostering meaningful discussions."

Lunch during the event will feature Alice in Dairyland Halei Heinzel as a speaker. As Wisconsin's 77th agriculture ambassador, Heinzel aims to educate audiences about Wisconsin’s diverse agriculture industry.

Those interested must register by March 4 through mstc.edu/farmtour for either or both parts of the event.
