City Holding Holiday Decoration Contest
The City of Stevens Point is hosting an online holiday decoration contest. “Events like this remind remind us that we can still enjoy things, especially around the holidays, but in a safe manner - a little piece of normal to hang on to,” said Mayor Wiza.
“Covid has everyone staying in more, and we can’t always participate in the events that we’ve come to take for granted. We did a small Halloween contest and it was a big success. Lindsay McClintock, our GIS specialist, took that idea and kicked it up a few notches,” said Wiza. “She put together a really cool GIS map of the city, and each entry will be marked on that map. You can click on the map and see the photo or video and then vote for your favorites.”
Area businesses are stepping up by donating prizes. Whelihan Glass at 2541 Patch Street has donated a $500 Lowe’s gift card, and there is a $100 Portage County gift certificate, too. There may be additional prizes, and the contest will run through December 25, 2020.
Entrants can submit a photo or video (up to 30 seconds) to photos@stevenspoint.com.
Stevenspoint.com will have a link to direct people to the map that can be viewed from any web-enabled device and can be used as a navigation assistant if you’d like to drive around and see the decorations in person.
The map will also be available directly at StevensPoint.com/decorations
