Starting October 10th, 2022, the Heart of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce will start a pantry food drop off box for “FOCUS” formally known as “SWEPS” food pantry for the Thanksgiving holiday season.

Dale, the Executive Director from Focus, stated that FOCUS was formed in February 2020 when the South Wood Emerging Pantry Shelf (SWEPS), The Neighborhood Table (TNT) and the Rapids Family Backpacks (RFB) merged as one nonprofit organization to combat food insecurity in the South Wood County area.  There continues to be an increase in those needing the pantry, especially families.  FOCUS is in our new location at 2321West Grand Avenue located in the Sparhawk building.

Dale from “FOCUS” food pantry advised that they currently needing:

Jelly

Crackers

Cereals

Dry Pastas

https://www.swepspantry.org/current-needs has a full list of other items that they need year-round or during the holidays. There are also opportunities to help volunteer there as well.

“I first started this project during COVID-19 in 2020, I had just had a child in April of 2020 in the mist of the pandemic and during my time at home I had a lot of time to think about how to help others. A month before my birthday, which happens to be a week before Thanksgiving, I thought this would be great opportunity to give back during the holidays as well as being an example to my daughter that this is how we can help others,” says Katie Wright, Event Coordinator at the Heart of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce. “I want to continue this for years down the road and I hope every year we can make a little or BIG impact and help our community.”

Donation bins will be at the Commerce office at 1120 Lincoln St, Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494. This will run from October 10th, 2022, until November 16th, 2022 at the end of the business day.
