WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI – United Way of South Wood & Adams Counties is excited to announce the return of bornlearning® academy in 2023. This series of six free workshops teaches practical skills & concepts for learning in everyday moments.
Parents and caregivers of children ages birth to four may enroll by January 17th, but space is limited to the first 20 families registered.
Sessions are scheduled for Tuesday evenings from 5:15pm-6:45pm, from January 31st through March 7th and located at Humke Elementary School in Nekoosa. Free dinner and on-site childcare will be provided during each workshop, and a door prize will be drawn nightly. Register now at www.uwswac.org!
United Way strives to meet parents where they are at. “bornlearning® academy is an opportunity for parents to meet other parents, enjoy a meal together and learn different skills that can help promote literacy and school readiness for their child(ren),” said Tari Jahns, CEO United Way of South Wood & Adams Counties.
Founded on an evidence-based curriculum established by early childhood faculty at Northern Kentucky University, the workshops are led by a trained early childhood professional and focus on five topics: Building Relationships, Building Your Child’s Language Skills, Nutrition & Health, How Children Learn, and Routines & Learning on the Go.
bornlearning® academy does more than strengthen our community’s school readiness efforts—it also helps engage families before kids start 4K. More than 600 United Ways and partner organizations have used bornlearning® academy materials to help parents, families, and caregivers promote school readiness and literacy, and to enlist business leaders and decision makers in the cause.
Each workshop offers individual attention and support to families, including:
• Research-based resources to help parents apply new knowledge at home
• Opportunities to practice new skills with their children and other parents
• Free, age-appropriate, activity-based childcare
• A nutritious community mea
l• A pre- and post-workshop survey to assess new knowledge

About the South Wood County Early Years Coalition
Early Years, a United Way of South Wood & Adams Counties Coalition, was created by professionals from various backgrounds including health care, education, childcare, and non-profit to collaborate resources and services addressing and breaking down barriers the community faces with the goal that children are ready to learn by the start of school. The coalition meets bi-monthly to generate strategies and implement action steps focused around childcare quality, community awareness, parent education, and family events.
