A new diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) conference is coming to Mid-State’s Stevens Point Campus on April 28 and 29. Known as DEI Applied, the event is sponsored by the College’s Workforce & Economic Development division and will welcome professionals, educators and community members of Wisconsin to engage in meaningful dialogue and collaboration to create actionable initiatives.

DEI Applied will feature keynote presentations from globally recognized DEI consultant and educator Mikaila Brown, Ph.D., who has taught thousands of professionals worldwide through her leadership of the eCornell Inclusion, Equity and Belonging certificate program.

The conference will emphasize interactive experiences and is geared toward educators, HR professionals, business and community leaders or anyone looking to make a difference. Participants will develop actionable preliminary steps to creating a collaborative inclusion strategy and learn tools to develop authentically inclusive spaces by addressing structural discrimination, acknowledging internal and organizational bias and leading effective equity teams.

“Mid-State is always looking for new ways to be a leader in personal and professional development, and we are thrilled to be able to bring our communities together from central Wisconsin and beyond to engage in the important ongoing work of creating inclusive and equitable spaces,” said Mid-State’s Stevens Point Campus Dean Ben Nusz.

“The work of creating and sustaining inclusive communities belongs to all of us, and this event not only calls us towards a common goal but will provide us with tools to get there,” said Gigi Stahl, equity, diversity and inclusion program specialist for the Stevens Point Area Public School District. “I cannot wait to see what our speakers and community members alike bring forward to share with one another.” Stahl was voted one of Wisconsin’s 2022 Most Influential Black Leaders by Madison365 and serves on Mid-State’s DEI Applied conference committee.
