FOIA Request to Village of Weston Regarding New Voter Registrations on November 7, 2024.
We at Central Wisconsin News have formally requested a list of new voters who registered on Election Day, November 5, 2024. The request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and we have expressed a preference for receiving the information in an electronic format.
As a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
In our request, we emphasized our role as members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. We believe this qualifies us for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await a response from the Village of Weston regarding this matter.
