Today, Congressman Tom Tiffany issued a statement following the decision by the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians to end their road closures. A federal judge has ordered the Biden administration to prevent any efforts to restrict access to these roads. This order follows a previous ruling that indicated the roads should remain open.

Congressman Tiffany criticized President Biden’s Department of Justice, accusing them of collaborating with the Tribe in an attempt to force the town of Lac du Flambeau into paying large sums of money to keep the roads accessible. He stated, "This is the second time that the courts have ruled against President Biden’s Department of Justice, who illegally colluded with the Tribe to coerce the town of Lac du Flambeau into paying millions of dollars in ransom to keep these vital roads open."

Tiffany emphasized that any future settlement should compensate fully for what he described as an unlawful extortion scheme. He added, "Moving forward, any potential settlement should fully compensate the town, which was victimized by this unlawful extortion racket, including any associated legal fees." Furthermore, he called for accountability from the DOJ: "The DOJ’s participation in this scheme must not go unpunished, and they must be held accountable to ensure that the residents of Lac du Flambeau are never denied access to essential roads again."
