Rep. Tom Tiffany of Wisconsin's 7th District has called on the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to consider relocating federal agency offices from Dane County. This request comes after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) labeled the county as "non-cooperative" due to its refusal to accept immigration detainers.
Tiffany's proposal aligns with a recent decision by the Small Business Administration (SBA) to move operations out of jurisdictions that do not comply with federal immigration laws. He suggests that DOGE should extend this precedent beyond the SBA, exploring other parts of Wisconsin for potential relocation sites.
"Dane County is classified as 'non-cooperative' by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), meaning they do not accept Immigration Detainers," Tiffany stated.
He also highlighted that Dane County was the only one among Wisconsin's 72 counties to reject a 2024 ballot measure prohibiting non-citizen voting, which passed statewide with a significant majority.
"I am confident you will have little difficulty identifying other jurisdictions in our state committed to complying with federal immigration law that would be happy to host these agencies, including many in my congressional district," Tiffany concluded.
