UW-Stevens Point's Schmeeckle Reserve announces summer camps and music series

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Schmeeckle Reserve is offering a variety of activities this summer, focusing on outdoor fun and education.

Two "Nature Explorers" day camps are scheduled for June 16-26 and July 7-17, targeting children entering grades 3 through 6. The camps will include hands-on activities such as discovery hikes, wildlife watching, frog catching, and canoeing. Each camp session runs Monday through Thursday from 1-4 p.m. over two weeks. The cost is $150 per session for non-members and $125 for Friends of Schmeeckle members, with each session limited to 20 participants.

Additionally, the "Music in the Woods" series will feature free concerts at the Pankowski Friends Amphitheater near the Schmeeckle Reserve Visitor Center at 2419 North Point Dr., Stevens Point. Sponsored by the Friends of Schmeeckle, performances start at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays throughout the summer.

The concert lineup includes:

- June 17: Point of Jazz – UWSP graduates playing jazz standards and original compositions.

- June 24: Moonhouse – A group performing folkadelic Americana music.

- July 22: CWSO Bassoon Quartet – Featuring bassoons from the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra.

- August 19: Tom Pease – High-energy music celebrating nature.
