Today, several U.S. representatives, including Tom Tiffany (WI-07) and Brad Finstad (MN-01), addressed a letter to Canada's Ambassador. The letter urges Canada to adopt stronger forest management practices to reduce wildfire risks. This action follows another instance of Canadian wildfire smoke affecting the Upper Midwest.

The lawmakers stated, "As I'm sure you know, this is not the first year Canadian wildfire smoke has been an issue." They noted that 2023 was Canada's worst year for wildfires on record, with subsequent years continuing the trend. The letter highlights inadequate forest management and arson as significant contributors to these wildfires.

They further emphasized the impact on air quality, stating, "Our constituents have been limited in their ability to go outside and safely breathe due to the dangerous air quality the wildfire smoke has created."

The representatives concluded by encouraging the Ambassador to discuss this issue with relevant Canadian agencies like Natural Resources Canada and the Canadian Forest Service.
