Rep. Tom Tiffany, a U.S. Congressman representing Wisconsin’s 7th district, announced a series of tax changes set to take effect in 2025 through posts on his official social media account on July 22, 2025.
In one post, Tiffany stated, "Beginning in 2025, tipped workers will be able to deduct tips from their taxable income—whether received in cash, by card, or through tip pooling. Workers who log overtime will also be able to deduct their overtime pay from federal taxes." (July 22, 2025).
Addressing small business owners, Tiffany added that the new legislation includes permanent provisions for certain deductions and depreciation: "For small businesses, the legislation makes permanent the Section 199A Qualified Business Income Deduction, which was set to expire at the end of 2025. It also restores 100% bonus depreciation, allowing businesses to immediately deduct the full cost of new equipment." (July 22, 2025).
Tiffany also highlighted benefits for seniors receiving Social Security: "Seniors benefit too. Thanks to the enhanced $6,000 standard deduction, nearly 9 in 10 Social Security recipients—more than 51 million Americans—will no longer pay federal taxes on their Social Security benefits." (July 22, 2025).
Tom Tiffany has served as the representative for Wisconsin’s 7th District since replacing Sean Duffy in 2020. Before his tenure in Congress, he was a member of both the Wisconsin State Assembly and State Senate between 2011 and 2020. Born in Wabasha, Minnesota in 1957 and currently residing in Minocqua, Tiffany holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin–River Falls.
