Jimmy Block died August 6, 1937

James "Jimmy" John Block died August 6, 1937. He was a Major League Baseball catcher who played for five seasons. He joined the Washington Senators the same day as pitcher Walter Johnson. Block later caught for the Chicago White Sox and caught Ed Walsh’s no-hitter in 1911. After his playing career, Block returned to Wisconsin. He worked as a salesman for the Miller Brewing Company. He married Maria Czaplewski of Milwaukee in 1910. He had ties to the City of Rapids through work and residence. His post-baseball life was spent in business and family life in Wisconsin. His passing marked the end of a life tied to both professional sports and regional history.
