The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has announced the creation of the Institute for Behavioral Health and Wellness Training to address the increasing demand for mental health professionals in central Wisconsin.
According to university officials, the new institute will provide individuals and organizations with access to education and training in behavioral health and wellness. The initiative is designed to help fill workforce gaps, broaden access to mental health services, and support healthier communities.
The institute will operate within UWSP Continuing Education and Outreach, offering a range of programs including certifications, continuing education, and professional development opportunities. These offerings are built on the university’s established experience in health and human services training.
"Signature offerings, such as the Mental Health and Substance Use Recovery Conference, International Health and Wellness Coaching Conference, Ethics and Boundaries Trainings, Crisis Intervention Conference and our many Health and Wellness Coaching programs have attracted participants from across the country and around the world, reinforcing UW-Stevens Point’s reputation as a trusted leader in behavioral health and wellness education. This new initiative allows us to expand our reach, grow our impact and deliver even more value to practitioners, organizations and the communities they serve."
The institute aims to become a central resource for professional training in behavioral health by providing expertise through certification programs that are accessible online at any time. It is expected that these efforts will help address shortages in the behavioral health workforce by delivering essential training required by industry professionals.
In addition to serving local needs, university representatives note that expanding its educational reach may strengthen partnerships both locally and internationally. The initiative is also positioned as a contributor to economic growth by supplying workforce solutions beneficial not only for Wisconsin but also beyond state lines.
"The Institute for Behavioral Health and Wellness Training represents Continuing Education’s ongoing commitment to innovation, excellence, and community impact in the fields of health and human services."
