WWSP 90FM at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is preparing to host its annual 54-hour trivia contest, now in its 55th year. "Trivia 55: NO LIMIT" will take place from April 11-13. The event has been a tradition since 1970, originating from the WWSP 90FM headquarters at UW-Stevens Point’s Communication Arts Center.
Teams interested in participating can register at the station between April 7-10 from 3-7 p.m. or on April 11 from noon to 6 p.m. Out-of-town participants can access registration forms and information online.
Dave Coulthurst, the trivia coordinator for 90FM, explained the theme for this year's contest: “The theme for the 2025 World’s Largest Trivia Contest is a look back at how the past envisioned the future. This retro-future theme showcases stunning visuals that make you wish the future imagined by the past were possible.”
The registration fee is $40 per team, with proceeds going towards maintaining the radio station and funding scholarships for student volunteers and staff. Merchandise such as shirts, hats, and mugs will be available both during registration and online.
The event will commence with a surprise film screening and a parade of teams through campus. The kickoff movie will be shown on April 4 and April 5 at Rogers Cinema in Stevens Point, with admission set at $3.
On April 11, a parade will start on Maria Drive at 4 p.m., followed by trivia questions beginning at 6 p.m. The contest concludes at midnight on April 13. Detailed information about registration and parade routes can be found on their website.
Throughout the weekend, eight trivia questions will be broadcast each hour. Teams will have two songs' worth of time to respond correctly and earn points. Additional challenges include community-based questions, music montages, and scavenger hunts. Top teams will receive trophies and recognition.
Participants from around the world are expected to join in testing their knowledge over this intense weekend of competition. The event serves as an opportunity for friends and families to connect while engaging in unique trivia challenges.
WWSP is noted as one of the largest student-run radio stations in the Midwest and was recently recognized by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association for its excellence in student broadcasting.
