Wisconsin Representative Tom Tiffany has called for the passage of the SAVE Act, which would require "proof of citizenship" and remove noncitizens from voter rolls. Tiffany made his statement in a March 26 post on X.
"ONLY American citizens should vote in American elections," said Tiffany. "President Trump is taking action to secure our elections—now Congress must pass the SAVE Act! Require proof of citizenship to vote, remove noncitizens from voter rolls."
The SAVE Act mandates that individuals provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register for federal elections. It prohibits states from processing voter registration applications without such proof. States must also take proactive measures to ensure that only U.S. citizens are registered and remove noncitizens from voter lists. Additionally, the bill allows for private legal action against election officials who fail to enforce these requirements and establishes criminal penalties. The Election Assistance Commission must issue implementation guidance within 10 days, according to Congress.gov.

According to a press release, Tiffany noted, "You may also be interested to know that among Wisconsin’s 72 counties, Dane was the only county to reject a 2024 ballot measure designed to prohibit non-citizen voting. This statewide referendum was approved by a more than 2-to-1 margin, 70.5% to 29.5%. Given this fact, I am confident you will have little difficulty identifying other jurisdictions in our state committed to complying with federal immigration law that would be happy to host these agencies, including many in my congressional district."
Tiffany represents Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District and was elected in May 2020 during a special election. He grew up on a dairy farm near Elmwood, Wisconsin, and holds a degree in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls. Before Congress, he served in the Wisconsin State Assembly and State Senate, focusing on tax reduction, job creation, and protection of Second Amendment rights.
