Mid-State Trapshoot event raises over $7,000 to help students weather financial emergencies

The popular Trapshoot Fundraiser hosted by Mid-State Technical College Foundation has again brought community members together for a great cause. The seventh annual competition was held Aug. 19 at the Wisconsin Trapshooting Association in Nekoosa, raising just shy of $7,500 for emergency grant programs benefitting students in financial need.

The first-place team was comprised of Fred Krause, Brian Krause, Kevin Krause, Dennis Saeger and Mike Bennett. Overall high female score went to Alex Lendved, and the event’s first winner in the youth category went to Connor Jones. Dennis Saeger and Ryan Richmond tied with a score of 47 for the overall top male, with Richmond claiming the title after a tie-breaking shootout.

“The Trapshoot Fundraiser is always an exciting event and a great way to meet different people from the surrounding communities who share an interest in the sport,” said Kevin Krause, a retired welder who worked for Domtar until 2013. “Without the millwright and welding apprenticeships I completed through Mid-State years ago, I couldn’t have made the living I was able to. I know firsthand how important it is to help build funds for the Foundation’s emergency programs and keep students enrolled and working toward a better future for themselves and central Wisconsin as a whole.”

“The Trapshoot Fundraiser just keeps getting better, thanks to the Foundation’s awesome supporters, and we were excited this year to expand our competition to include a youth division,” said Jill Steckbauer, director of Foundation & Alumni. “This event is always a wonderful way to gather as a community in support of students, and we are ever thankful for the generosity of participants and volunteers who continue to make this fundraiser a success.”
