Mid-State Technical College’s Nursing program has been ranked as the top registered nurse (RN) program in Wisconsin for 2026 by RegisteredNursing.org. This marks the first time the college has achieved the No. 1 spot, after previously being listed among the state’s top ten programs.

RegisteredNursing.org highlighted Mid-State’s associate degree in nursing (ADN) for its hybrid learning approach and strong student outcomes. The organization noted that the program achieved a 100 percent pass rate on the NCLEX exam in 2024, which is higher than the national average of 91.2 percent.

The ranking reviewed 41 colleges across Wisconsin that offer nursing degrees at various levels, including associate, bachelor’s, and direct-entry master’s programs. Key factors considered included NCLEX pass rates, affordability, career readiness, and clinical training opportunities.

“This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our faculty, who bring both nursing expertise and a deep commitment to student success,” said Kelly Nelson, dean of Mid-State’s School of Nursing. “Their support and guidance help ensure our graduates are fully prepared for the demands of today’s healthcare workforce.”

Nelson also acknowledged students’ efforts: “Our nursing students consistently show incredible determination,” she said. “Passing the NCLEX on the first attempt is no small achievement, and their success reflects the hard work they put in from day one.”

Mid-State Technical College offers affordable tuition and practical clinical experiences through advanced training facilities such as its Healthcare Simulation Center at Aspirus Wisconsin Rapids Hospital. The center uses high-fidelity simulators to allow students to practice handling complex medical scenarios in a controlled environment.

The NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) is required nationwide for nurse licensure. Both past and current first-time pass rates were used in determining rankings by RegisteredNursing.org, with more recent data given greater weight.

RegisteredNursing.org is based in Carlsbad, California and provides resources aimed at supporting excellence within the nursing profession through education and employment information.
