Wisconsin State Representative Tom Tiffany has expressed concern that earmarks, which have been reintroduced by Nancy Pelosi, are facilitating excessive spending in support of the "woke agenda", costing taxpayers an estimated $14.6 billion in the Fiscal Year 2024 omnibus. He revealed that he has joined forces with Representative Ralph Norman to introduce legislation aimed at permanently banning earmarks.

"Earmarks are a gateway drug for excessive spending brought back by Nancy Pelosi to fund the woke agenda," said U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-Wi), according to X. "In the FY24 omnibus, they cost taxpayers $14.6 BILLION. I joined @RepRalphNorman in introducing legislation to permanently BAN earmarks."

Representative Ralph Norman is spearheading a bill intended to put a stop to earmarks. These are a form of federal spending that permits lawmakers to secure funding for projects within their districts. Often inserted into large spending bills and frequently overlooked, earmarks allocate federal funds for specific purposes such as infrastructure projects or local programs. The bill currently boasts five Republican co-sponsors, including Representatives Scott Perry from Pennsylvania, Matt Rosendale from Montana, Tom Tiffany from Wisconsin, Tom McClintock from California, and Andy Ogles from Tennessee. This information was reported by the Daily Signal.

"The use and abuse of earmarks by Members on both sides of the political aisle is appalling," said Norman according to a press release by House.Gov. "I will continue to reintroduce this bill to kill earmarks each Congress until others take it seriously. We owe that much to the taxpayers who we work for."

Tiffany represents Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District and was elected in May 2020 during a special election. Raised on a dairy farm near Elmwood, Wisconsin, he holds a degree in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls. Prior to his tenure in Congress, Tiffany served in the Wisconsin State Assembly and State Senate where he focused on tax reduction, job creation, and protecting 2nd Amendment rights as per his biography provided by House.Gov.
