Wisconsin State Representative Tom Tiffany has urged Congress to pass Representative Chip Roy’s Save Act, describing it as a necessary measure to prevent "illegal aliens" from voting in U.S. elections. Tiffany emphasized that "only U.S. citizens" should have the right to vote in a June 24 post on X.
"Congress must pass @RepChipRoy's Save Act," said Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-Wi). "It's one commonsense way we can STOP illegal aliens from voting in our elections. ONLY U.S. citizens should vote in U.S. elections."
Tiffany's comments were made in response to a report by the New York Post, which stated that welfare offices and other agencies in 49 U.S. states are distributing voter registration forms to migrants without requiring proof of citizenship. According to the report, most states provide voter registration forms to applicants for welfare benefits, driver’s licenses, or mail-in ballots without verifying citizenship. Although federal voting forms do not currently mandate proof of U.S. citizenship, falsely claiming citizenship or voting as a non-citizen in federal elections is illegal.

The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, recently approved by the House Administration Committee, aims to mandate proof of citizenship for voter registration through mail, Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), and welfare agency offices. Despite carveouts for disabled individuals and those lacking documentation but attesting to citizenship, concerns persist as federal and state investigations have uncovered thousands of non-citizens improperly registered to vote.
Tiffany represents Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District and was elected in May 2020 during a special election. He grew up on a dairy farm near Elmwood, Wisconsin, and holds a degree in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls. Before joining Congress, Tiffany served in the Wisconsin State Assembly and State Senate, focusing on tax reduction, job creation, and protection of Second Amendment rights.
