Wisconsin State Representative Tom Tiffany stated that Vice President Kamala Harris, as the "Border Czar," is "responsible" for the many unaccounted-for children who crossed the southern border illegally under the Biden administration. He emphasized that this occurred on "her watch." Tiffany made his statement in an August 20 post on X.
"Kamala Harris is the Border Czar," said Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-Wi). "This is her record. It happened on her watch. She is responsible."
Tiffany's comment was in response to a post referencing a new report from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Inspector General. The report highlighted that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has not served Notices to Appear (NTAs) on over 291,000 unaccompanied children who entered the U.S. illegally, meaning they do not have scheduled immigration court dates. The report also notes that from fiscal years 2019 to 2023, more than 32,000 of these children failed to appear for their court hearings.

According to NBC News, the term "border czar," frequently used by Republicans to criticize Kamala Harris, originated in March 2021 when she was assigned to manage the influx of migrants from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras due to violence and crime. These countries are part of the Northern Triangle region, which has experienced significant violence and organized crime, leading to a large number of people fleeing the area. Although the White House did not officially use the term "czar," it gained traction among critics as a way to describe her role in addressing the migration issue.
