Wisconsin State Representative Tom Tiffany said that harboring illegal aliens is a felony and urged Governor Tony Evers to support deportation efforts. He expressed concerns that failing to do so "jeopardizes community safety" and is "unfair to legal immigrants." Tiffany made these remarks in a December 10 post on the social media platform X.
"Harboring illegal aliens is a felony," said Tiffany. "Governor Evers should cooperate with efforts to deport criminal illegal aliens. Failing to do so jeopardizes the safety of our communities, undermines the rule of law, and is unfair to immigrants who came here legally."
According to a report by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Governor Evers responded by saying his office would take steps to "avoid" mass deportations in Wisconsin. Evers highlighted the contributions of undocumented immigrants to the state's economy, particularly in agriculture and dairy sectors. He also expressed hope for reasonable immigration legislation from lawmakers and criticized President-elect Trump's border czar, Tom Homan’s plan, which includes punishing local officials who do not comply with immigration laws, as "stupid talk."

Tiffany further addressed Governor Evers' comments opposing President-elect Trump's plan in an op-ed for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He reiterated that not enforcing immigration laws endangers community safety and strains local resources, citing incidents involving illegal immigrants. Tiffany proposed securing the border, focusing on deporting criminal immigrants, and encouraging voluntary self-deportation as solutions. He called on Evers to align with federal deportation efforts.
Tiffany represents Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District after being elected in May 2020 during a special election. Raised on a dairy farm near Elmwood, Wisconsin, he holds a degree in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin–River Falls. Before joining Congress, Tiffany served in the Wisconsin State Assembly and State Senate, concentrating on tax reduction, job creation, and protecting 2nd Amendment rights.
