Mid-State Technical College is reaching out to the community for assistance in naming its new robotic dog. This initiative is part of the college's celebration of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month. The institution invites students, community members, and industry professionals to visit Mid-State on Central or the Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, and Apprenticeship (AMETA) Center to meet the robot and suggest a suitable name.

Nominations can be submitted in person at Mid-State on Central from February 1 to February 8, during specified hours. The AMETA Center will accept nominations from February 10 to February 28.

The robotic dog is currently unnamed and represents advancements in automation and technology. It is used in the Civil Engineering Technology-Highway Technician program for building 3D maps with its drone-like capabilities. The robot can perform various tricks such as sitting, waving, rolling over, and doing flips. Visitors are encouraged to witness these demonstrations firsthand.

On March 5, Mid-State will select the top three name nominations, with submitters receiving a prize. Final voting will take place on the college's Facebook page from March 5 to March 10. The chosen name will be announced on March 10 via social media.

"Career and Technical Education Month is the perfect time for us to invite the community to visit our locations and experience the cutting-edge, hands-on training that Mid-State students receive," said Jackie Esselman, dean of Recruitment and Admissions. "This month is all about showcasing the incredible skills and technologies students are learning to use, and we're especially excited to introduce the robot dog technology. It's not just about the innovation—it’s also fun to see the creative names our community comes up with for this exciting piece of tech.”
