Mid-State Technical College is set to host an event aimed at those interested in fire safety and careers in fire protection. The "Fire Up Your Future: Fire Academy Experience Day" will take place on Tuesday, August 12, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Wisconsin Rapids Campus.
The event offers attendees a chance to experience Mid-State’s Fire Service Training Academy and learn about opportunities for future firefighters that are supported by grants and tuition assistance.
Participants can enjoy complimentary brats and hotdogs, watch live fire demonstrations from local fire departments, and explore career options in fire protection. Free program applications will be available during the event, with qualifying high school students in South Wood County potentially receiving free tuition through a Legacy Foundation grant.
Rick Anderson, dean of Protective Services at Mid-State, stated, “This event is more than just a look at our program—it’s about building the future of our community’s fire protection workforce.”
The event also serves as an opportunity for community members to gain valuable fire safety tips ahead of Labor Day weekend—a period known for increased fire-related incidents due to outdoor activities.
Those who register by August 8 will receive a free T-shirt upon check-in. The event is open to students considering a career in this field, parents supporting their children’s futures, or anyone looking to enhance their knowledge of fire safety.
