The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is preparing for its annual Homecoming and Family Day, scheduled for Saturday, October 18. The event will feature a variety of activities aimed at students, alumni, faculty, staff, and families.

Festivities at the Homecoming Hotspot in Goerke Park will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering alumni reunions, food trucks including Stevie’s, college showcases, axe throwing suitable for all ages, giveaways while supplies last, inflatable games, a DJ and photobooth, merchandise sales, and a performance by the Pointer Pep Band. A Stormy Kromer Pop-Up tent will sell UWSP-branded hats with "$20 from each UWSP branded Stormy Kromer sold will support UWSP!"

Athletic events on October 18 include the Pointers football team facing the UW-River Falls Falcons at 1 p.m. at Goerke Field; tickets are available at the gate. Earlier in the day at 11 a.m., both men's and women's tennis teams will play against St. Norbert Green Knights. The women’s soccer team also plays UW-River Falls Falcons at 1 p.m. on campus.

Free planetarium shows are set to take place hourly between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.—excluding noon—in the Allen F. Blocher Planetarium located on the second floor of the Science Building.

Students from the Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree program are organizing a 5K race through Schmeeckle Reserve beginning at 10 a.m.; details and registration can be found on runsignup.com/Race/WI/StevensPoint/UWSPHomecoming5K.

Throughout Homecoming week there will be student-focused activities such as canoe “Battleship,” a shark-themed movie night in Champions Hall pool, bingo, trivia contests (more information is available at spin.uwsp.edu/events?topic_tags=6577392), as well as competitions like bed races (see uwsp.edu/student-homecoming-events/).

The university's Alumni Board fall meeting coincides with Homecoming week this year and welcomes three new members: John Harry ’09 ("executive director of the Portage County Historical Society"), Liz Gross Ph.D. ’04 ("founder and CEO of Campus Sonar") and Hazle Crawford ’18 ("deputy chief of staff for Council Member Natali Fani-Gonzalez in Washington, D.C.").

Additionally, on Sunday October 6 from 1-3 p.m., current students will lead a community-wide clean-up organized by the Student Government Association; interested participants can contact sga.president@uwsp.edu for more information.

Further details about Homecoming events can be found at give.uwsp.edu/page/homecoming.
