Managing Trauma Driven Behavior: Foster Care Seminar

Date: TUESDAY, MAY 24, 2022 9:30AM - 3:00PM

Location: Northcentral Technical College - Wausau Campus, Main Entrance - Room E101 · 1000 W Campus Dr, Wausau, WI 54401

This seminar will give practical approaches to caring for children with sensory issues related to trauma and how best to support them when they are having melt downs, pushing caregivers away, or shutting down.  This session will discuss where the behaviors may be coming from, providing insight into how trauma impacts child development and functioning.

Meet our Speaker

Deb Buchanan is an Occupational Therapist with extensive experience practicing trauma informed care. She received her Bachelor’s and Master's degrees from UW-Milwaukee in Occupational Therapy and has been providing school based occupational therapy since 1994. In 2005 Deb formed Kids Discover Success Therapeutics, LLC.  Since 2005, she has provided school-based OT services to independent charter schools in the Milwaukee area. She also consulted with SaintA , now Wellpoint Care Network, as they developed their program around Trauma Informed Care using Dr. Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics.  As a consultant for SaintA, she provided community-based OT services with foster children and youth and provided professional development training to their staff regarding sensory-based interventions.  She has presented trainings to foster families and adoptive families through various agencies.

Foster Parent Registration: $20

Professional Registration: $35 (includes CEUs)

Lunch will be provided
