Move over true crime documentaries, we’ve got our own murder tour right here in Stevens Point! Join the Portage County Historical Society for the tour event of the fall when the Murder on Main Street Tour returns to Stevens Point on October 18th. Held on the anniversary of one of Stevens Point's most brutal murders, attendees will learn about how the city at one time earned the nickname "Shooting Point." Led by local attorney and PCHS board member Erik McFarland, this tour takes you back in time to some of the city’s more gruesome moments.
“One of the questions we get asked the most is ‘when is the murder tour coming back?’ Well, get ready for October 18th!” Says PCHS Executive Director John Harry, “We’re excited to present this tour that the
community is so interested in. In the past we’ve had over 100 attendees.”
This free walking tour starts at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18 in the Portage County Courthouse parking lot by the Civil War Memorial and concludes at the Matthias Mitchell Public Square.
Due to the graphic subject matter, this tour is not suitable for children. While this tour is free to the public, a $5 suggested donation per person is encouraged to support the public programming of the Portage County Historical Society. Additionally, this tour is rain or shine, so please dress appropriately for the weather.
