A tale of love and redemption in a bluegrass musical titled "Bright Star" will grace the stage at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The musical, created by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, will be showcased at the Jenkins Theatres of the Noel Fine Arts Center in Stevens Point.

Set in the 1920s and '40s American South, the production follows editor Alice Murphy as she encounters a young soldier returning home from World War II, reigniting her yearning for the child she once lost. Professor Mark Hanson, the show's director, described it as a narrative of second chances, with a cast of 24 individuals infusing energy into the storytelling.

Hanson expressed his excitement about the unique musical style, stating, "The bluegrass style of music is unusual for musical theatre." He emphasized the show's aim to provide an uplifting and genuine theatrical experience, filled with hope and daring creativity.

The performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13, and Thursday through Saturday, April 18 through 20, with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 4. Ticket prices range from $16 for youth to $27 for adults, with discounts available for seniors and UW-Stevens Point faculty and staff. Tickets can be purchased online, over the phone, or in person at the Information and Tickets Office in the Dreyfus University Center.

The production promises to be a refreshing and relatable experience for all audiences, offering a new musical journey that delves into themes of love, loss, and the power of second chances.
