The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Schmeeckle Reserve is gearing up for an array of exciting spring programs that offer a unique opportunity to explore nature and learn about the environment.

One of the highlighted events is the annual Spring Candlelight Hike, themed “Hopping into Spring,” which will take place on Friday, May 3, from 7-9:30 p.m. The event promises torch-lit trails, character programs, snacks, crafts, and live animals. According to the Friends of Schmeeckle Reserve, a donation of $4 per person or $10 per family is suggested to support future events and projects of the reserve.

In addition to the Candlelight Hike, a series of Family Nature Programs will be offered throughout the spring season. These programs, led by UW-Stevens Point students studying environmental education, cover a wide range of topics from plant identification and insect exploration to wellness in nature and photography skills.

Participants interested in joining the Family Nature Programs are required to register by emailing schmeeckle@uwsp.edu, calling 715-346-4992, or visiting the Visitor Center in person. The programs are free, open to the public, and provide a hands-on learning experience in the beautiful surroundings of Schmeeckle Reserve.

Schmeeckle Reserve, a field station of UW-Stevens Point, serves as an outdoor classroom for learning, a recreational area, and a conservation site dedicated to protecting and restoring ecosystems. For more information about the reserve and its programs, visit www.uwsp.edu/schmeeckle.
