The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Marshfield is set to host the Full STEAM Ahead camp this August, an educational program focusing on Science, Technology, Art, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEAM). Scheduled for August 13-15 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the camp is designed to provide middle school girls and students of all genders with strategies to build confidence in science and math classes through hands-on projects such as biology and ecology simulations, 3-D printing, and constructing water bottle rockets.
“Our STEAM program offers a unique opportunity to dive into science and mathematics while collaborating with your peers in a safe and inclusive environment,” said Co-coordinator and UW-Stevens Point Associate Lecturer Jesse Mossholder.
The summer program is coordinated by the School of Education. Preservice teachers lead each session with content designed by university faculty specializing in STEAM fields.
“This was a tremendous experience for my daughter,” said one parent. “She talked non-stop about the program, the fun she had, the friends she made, and the lessons she learned. This is a fantastic opportunity, and I feel very fortunate that my daughter was able to participate.”
This grant-funded program is free of charge and includes breakfast and lunch. To register for Full STEAM Ahead, visit bit.ly/uwspfullsteamahead.
