The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is set to host planetarium and laser light shows throughout April. Events will be held at the Allen F. Blocher Planetarium, featuring a mix of educational and entertainment programs.
The planetarium will offer shows at 2 p.m. on Sundays. These public events last about an hour and include a 25-minute presentation highlighting the night sky over Central Wisconsin. The shows are free, with donations encouraged to support future programs. Laser light shows are scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. between April 2-6, with tickets available at the door starting at 6:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $7 for adults, $6 for students, and $5 for UWSP students with a student ID.
The planetarium shows include:
- April 6, 2 p.m. - “The Sun, Our Living Star”: This show provides insights into our Sun using unique images.
- April 13, 2 p.m. - “Night of the Titanic”: Attendees will get a glimpse of the Titanic's final moments and learn about related environmental themes.
- April 27, 2 p.m. - “One Sky Project”: Audiences will explore humanity's shared view of the sky through various cultural interpretations.
The laser light shows lineup features:
- April 2 - “Laser Pink Floyd: The Wall”
- April 3 - “Laser Beatles”
- April 4 - “Laser Taylor Swift”
- April 5 - “Laser Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon”
- April 6 - “Laser Taylor Swift”
Additionally, Junior Scientist programs will be offered on select Sundays. These sessions begin at 3 p.m. with a book reading, followed by a planetarium presentation from 3:40 to 4:10 p.m. On April 27, the program “Larry – Cat in Space” will provide a playful exploration of space through the eyes of a curious cat.
Seating at the planetarium is available on a first-come, first-served basis for up to 55 people. Groups of eight or more can arrange for special showings by calling 715-346-2208 or through an online form, though fees apply for private bookings.
The planetarium is situated on the second floor of the UW-Stevens Point Science Building. Parking is free after 7 p.m. and on weekends in university lots.
The planetarium will also host stargazing sessions on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights from 8:30-10 p.m., weather permitting, at Colman Field. These viewings depend on clear skies and temperatures above 15 degrees Fahrenheit. For updates, attendees can check the planetarium’s website.
