The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Latino Student Alliance and Multicultural Resource Center will host public celebrations of Hispanic culture in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. This annual observance runs from September 15 to October 15, focusing on raising awareness about the diverse cultures and traditions within the Hispanic community. The university's Diversity and College Access department aims to foster an immersive experience for both the campus and the wider community.
Several free events are scheduled to take place at the Dreyfus University Center Laird Room, located at 1015 Reserve St., Stevens Point:
- Friday, Sept. 20, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.: Hispanic Heritage Month Festival. Attendees can enjoy pan dulce and beverages while creating their own mini piñata.
- Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.: Hispanic Heritage Month Keynote featuring Marina Garza Croft, JD. Croft is an immigration attorney specializing in family, labor and employment, civil, and administrative law matters. She is also a director of Legal Services and a former Wisconsin administrative law judge. In her keynote address, she will share her experiences as a Hispanic woman in the legal profession.
- Saturday, Oct. 12, from 5:30 to 10 p.m.: Celebracion Hispana: Under the Same Moon. This event will close out Hispanic Heritage Month with a cultural celebration that includes vendors, food, performances, and more. Tickets for the public are $15; children under 12 can attend for free.
All events are organized in partnership with the Latino Student Alliance and Multicultural Resource Center within Diversity and College Access at UW-Stevens Point. These organizations provide resources for students throughout the year.
