The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Department of Theatre and Dance has announced its new season, themed “A Season of…,” which aims to bring celebration, mystery, imagination, and more to the stage.

“I wanted each show of the season to have a defining word that captured the spirit and energy of the production,” said Michael Estanich, professor and Department of Theatre and Dance chair. “This season’s selection is an exciting mixture of classic and new.”

The first performance is “Eleven Weeks of Nuclear Summer,” set in mid-apocalyptic Maine. The play features five camp counselors grappling with questions of self, connection, and survival. It was written by UW-Stevens Point alum Sophie McIntosh, class of 2020. McIntosh will work with students through a workshop process and staged reading. She returns from New York, where she has found success as an emerging playwright.

Tickets for “Eleven Weeks of Nuclear Summer” are $10 and available at tickets.uwsp.edu. Performances will be held at three UW-Stevens Point campuses:

- UWSP at Marshfield: 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19, Black Box Theatre.

- UW-Stevens Point: 7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20, and Saturday, Sept. 21, Noel Fine Arts Center.

- UWSP at Wausau: 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 22, James F. Veninga Theatre.
