The annual Women Trailblazers Conference, hosted by Continuing Education at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 6. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dreyfus University Center, located at 1015 Reserve St., Stevens Point.

The conference features keynotes, breakout sessions, an exhibition fair, and networking receptions. It is presented in partnership with the Small Business Development Center of Wisconsin and UW-Stevens Point Sentry School of Business and Economics.

Participants have praised the conference for its inspiring environment. One attendee shared, “I loved the real-life experience that was shared by all the women in the conference.” Discussions cover a range of topics from starting a business to leadership, offering attendees new ideas and perspectives.

This year's keynote speaker is Deanna Singh, an award-winning author, educator, business leader, and social justice champion. Singh will discuss her work in social change. Christine Russell, recipient of the UW-Stevens Point Alumni Association 2023 Trailblazer Spotlight award, will also speak about health promotion and corporate wellness for women of color.

Associate Professor Lyna Matesi commented on the significance of the event: “As women, so many of us know that it is our time to have a seat at the table, lead and start new things.” Matesi noted that what began as a 60-minute webinar in 2019 has grown into five years of supporting women across Wisconsin who aspire to start businesses or initiatives. "We like to say that at UW-Stevens Point women thrive,” she added.

Mara Prausa, continuing education program manager involved in planning since 2022, emphasized the positive impact on attendees: “Women juggle so many things,” she said. “This is an opportunity to let it all go and be inspired. It has been really rewarding to see people leave women trailblazers feeling energized.”

Women and allies are invited to participate in this conference focused on developing leadership skills and driving change. Registration is open now. For more information and to register, visit www3.uwsp.edu/conted/Pages/Women-Trailblazers-Conference.aspx.
