The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Allen F. Blocher Planetarium will host a series of shows this February, offering an opportunity to explore galaxies and learn about various astronomical phenomena. These planetarium presentations are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sundays throughout January and February, each lasting approximately one hour. The sessions include a 25-minute segment focused on the current night sky over Central Wisconsin, highlighting bright stars, constellations, and planets.

Admission to these events is free and open to the public, though donations are welcomed to support the continuation of such programs. The lineup for the upcoming shows includes:

- January 26: "Mars, The Ultimate Voyage" explores what it takes to embark on humanity's first mission beyond Earth's orbit.

- February 2: "Supermassive Black Holes: Uncovering the Invisible" delves into black hole physics within galaxy evolution.

- February 9: "Mysteries of Your Brain" offers an animated journey into what makes the human brain unique.

- February 16: "Forward – To the Moon," featuring Kari Byron from “MythBusters” and “Crash Test World,” discusses NASA’s space initiatives in the 21st century.

- February 23: "The Dark Matter Mystery: Exploring a Cosmic Secret" investigates what holds the universe together through dark matter research.

Additionally, two Junior Scientist programs will be held on select Sundays from 3:40 to 4:10 p.m., preceded by a book reading session at 3 p.m., in collaboration with the UW-Stevens Point Museum of Natural History:

- January 26: "One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure" features “Sesame Street” characters learning about significant universal landmarks.

- February 23: "Tilt" follows two children and their robot friend as they discover how Earth's tilt affects day-night cycles and seasons.

Seating at the planetarium is available on a first-come, first-served basis for up to 55 attendees. Groups of eight or more can arrange special showings by contacting the planetarium directly at 715-346-2208 or submitting an online request form. A fee applies for these group requests.

The planetarium is situated on the second floor of UW-Stevens Point's Science Building at 2001 Fourth Ave., Stevens Point. Parking is complimentary in all university lots after 7 p.m. and during weekends.

For those interested in stargazing, sessions are offered Monday through Wednesday evenings from 8:30 to 10 p.m., weather permitting, at Colman Field located at Maria St. and Reserve St. These viewings occur only if skies are clear and temperatures exceed 15 degrees Fahrenheit. Weather updates can be found on the department’s website.
